Think online infomercials, audio/video content (“podcasts”/”vodcasts”); supported by informative on-air vignettes (in “spot avails”).
- Paid religion on Sunday hurts Monday morning drive ratings. It’s right there in your day-to-day recycling data. Instead, put that longform online. Tell preachers-who-pay: “NOW, YOU CAN BE HEARD ANYTIME, NOT JUST SUNDAY, WHEN YOUR FLOCK IS ALREADY IN CHURCH!” Bundle some ROS spots to remind the flock that He is online. And set-up a PayPal “collection plate” for your client.
- Cosmetic Dentistry and Sedation Dentistry are two of the hottest sub-categories on radio now. Sell ‘em on-air shortform that pushes cume to online audio/video, where the doc’s bedside matter asks-for-the-order. Almost ANY kind of caregiver has a story to tell. Find a fitness-oriented doctor who’s comforting to Baby Boomers feeling the-aches-and-pains-of-aging. Call the doctor’s download a “bodcast.”

“But we’ve got our hands full running a radio station! Now we have to do videos TOO???”
Frankly, yes. Web video is already exploding. What you have that vodcasters don’t? Your transmitter, to drive eyeballs to online content.
And you don’t have to take your eye off the ball. Keep doing radio. And trade with any-of-umpteen wedding-and-bar mitzvah videographers in the Yellow Pages. Swap ‘em their dark time for mentions, credits, banners-on-your-web-site, “Official Videographer of WXXX” status, and a few unsold avails.
